Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the federal government has blocked her from speaking before a federal environment committee.
“On Tuesday I accepted on behalf of the Government of Alberta an invitation to appear at the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. Today they sent a letter rejecting my attendance,” Smith said on X.
“That was the fastest response we’ve ever received from the feds – apparently they don’t want me to testify about electricity grid reliability or our pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050 after all…wonder why?”
Smith further said that Canada and Alberta are united in their pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050 but disagree on the timeline.
“Ottawa’s 2035 timeline will increase the price of electricity and reduce reliability to Canadian homes and businesses,” Smith said on Wednesday.
Smith’s UCP has recently launched an $8 million ad campaign in Ontario, which consists of truck-side advertising meant to sway public opinion on the Trudeau government’s environmental agenda. The trucks have messages on them such as “No one wants to freeze in the dark — tell the feds.”
Smith said the feds’ regulations will make Alberta’s energy grid “unreliable” and cause massive spikes in power bills.
Calgary MP (and porch pirate) George Chahal called Smith’s ad campaign a fear mongering one consisting of “misinformation.”
Danielle Smith vs Guilbeault
Last month, Smith criticized Canada’s Climate Change Minister for displaying “appalling” double standards by pointing out his contrasting treatment of China compared to his own country.
“The Minister of Environment doesn’t know a single thing about our power grid,” she said.
“I find it appalling as do most Albertans that he is co-chairing a committee with China that has a 2060 target.”
