At the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) event, climate economist Bjorn Lomborg challenged the climate alarmism perpetuated by politicians and costly green policies.
ARC has been called an alternative to the doom and gloom messages espoused by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Speaking at the ARC event, Lomborg argued that while global warming is real and man-made, the threat is often exaggerated.
Lomborg dismantled several myths, such as ‘the world is burning because of climate change,’ pointing to a huge decline in the percentage of the global surface area burned over the past century.
“People don’t like stuff burning, and so they actually make sure things don’t burn. This is human ingenuity,” Lomborg said.
He also brought up the inconvenient fact that cold-related deaths far exceed those caused by heat. In Europe and the US, for example, cold kills ten times more people annually than heat.
“Why is it our politicians only talk about the heat and not the cold? It’s much more convenient, but it doesn’t make it right,” he said.
Lomborg further pointed out that deaths from climate-related disasters have decreased by over 98% in the last century due to technological advancements.
Discussing the economic impact of global warming, Lomborg estimated a GDP reduction of 2-3% by the end of the century.
“If you’re going to try to fix a 2 to 3% problem, you don’t want to end up spending 10 to 15% fixing it because that’s a really bad deal,” he said. “Our current climate policy [is] unrealistic, unsustainable… The current policies are dumb beyond belief and we won’t be able to afford them.”
Wildfires across the globe have deceased over the past twenty years, but reporting on climate change increased by 400% between 2010 and 2022.
