Mainstream Research’s July public-opinion poll shows that 60% of Canadians want Justin Trudeau to step down as the country’s Prime Minister.
Mainstream Research asked 1,184 adults nationwide for their take on the federal parties and their leaders.
As for their view of Prime Minister Trudeau, 64% of respondents said they view him unfavourably (48% ‘very unfavourably’, 18% ‘somewhat unfavourably’).
Comparatively, just 30% view the Prime Minister favourably (9% ‘very favourably’, 21% ‘somewhat favourably’.)
In terms of what party individuals would vote for if an election were held today, 43% said they’d vote for the Poilievre Conservatives, compared to just 21% saying they’d choose the Trudeau Liberals.
Additionally, 14% said they would choose Jagmeet Singh’s NDP, 9% were undecided, and 7% chose Quebec’s separatist party, the Bloc Québécois.
Trudeau dances around question about firing Freeland
On Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refused to confirm or deny rumours that he plans to replace Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland with former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney.
Trudeau did confirm that he’s been trying to get Carney to join his Liberal Party, though.
