MSNBC has been lambasted on social media for posting an article that links health and fitness obsession with being politically “far right.”
“The far right’s obsession with fitness is going digital,” the headline reads.
In the article, author Cynthia Miller-Idriss claimed that “Physical fitness has always been central to the far right.” She then used an example about Hitler to prove her point.
Miller-Idriss further claimed that “The intersection of extremism and fitness leans into a shared obsession with the male body, training, masculinity, testosterone, strength and competition.”
She argues that online chat groups start out as fitness oriented but then slip into white supremacist cesspools.
“Initially lured with health tips and strategies for positive physical changes, new recruits are later invited to closed chat groups where far-right content is shared,” she wrote.
The article got badly ratioed. Twitter CEO Elon Musk chimed in, tweeting “MSNBC thinks you’re a nazi if you work out lmaooo.” He further said that “Parody and reality are becoming indistinguishable.”
Podcaster Joe Rogan also expressed his shock at the opinion piece.
“Being healthy is “far right.” Holy fuck,” he said.
The far-left obsession with validating unhealthy bodies has extended to referring to plus sized outfits as “size inclusive” to showcasing obese women on the front cover of women’s magazines.
