People’s Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier came out to say that he fully supports the digital currency Bitcoin.

As Bernier is a lifelong libertarian, this should come as no surprise. Bernier regularly supports entrepreneurship and rallies against anti-competition regulations and central banks that hamstring the average client and the broader economy.

In a tweet, Bernier admitted that he is a bigger fan of gold and silver, but he thinks that cryptocurrency is an innovative way to counter the consequences of central banking.

“Many people are asking if I support Bitcoin and cryptos,” Bernier said Tuesday. “Of course I do!”

“I hate how central banks are destroying our money and economy. I’m more of an old-fashioned gold & silver fan, but cryptos are another new and innovative way to counter this that should be encouraged.”

Bernier previously mentioned his love of freedom and bitcoin during an interview on December 11, 2020. He even thanked the host for sending him a copy of ‘The Bitcoin Standard’.

While humbly admitting that he does not know as much as he could about cryptocurrency, Bernier again showed an interest and general support for Bitcoin as a means of investment and asset protection.

“Governments around the world are looking to regulate bitcoin and to impose more restrictions,” said Bernier. “They don’t like competition. And we know that central banks are looking for another way to compete with Bitcoin [because Bitcoin is] a good way to protect your wealth.”

“You know, it’s too bad that there’s something there that people can use to protect their wealth, and now you have the government trying to interfere.”
