The Ontario NDP has taken a hit according to pollsters and it comes days after the party attempted to reach its base by releasing a TikTok cat video.
The dip comes after Marit Stiles’ NDP released an actual ad on February 15th of cats talking to each other with emojis and kids music playing in the background. In the video, the cats complain about healthcare.
Abacus Data revealed on Tuesday that the NDP has since seen a concerning 4-point drop, reaching its lowest support level since the previous provincial election.
The NDP is polling at 19%, down from 23% just last month.
Conservative MPP Goldie Ghamari later posted “I guess all the time, effort and money the Ontario NDP wasted on making fever dream TikTok videos of cats wearing banana costumes didn’t give them the results they wanted…”
Ford’s PCs capitalize on economic discontent with Trudeau Liberals
Meanwhile, Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative Party finds itself in an enviable position, in-part thanks to the federal Liberals.
According to the poll, 64% of Ontarians blame the Trudeau Liberals for the spike in their living expenses, with only 36% pointing fingers at the Ford administration.
In fact, 20% of those who voted for the federal Liberals in 2021 have shifted allegiance to Ford.
The PCs lead the charge across Ontario, enjoying a 13-point advantage among male voters and a more modest 4-point lead with female voters.
Ford’s party is currently the preferred party across all age groups.
The Liberals, under Bonnie Crombie, find their strength among voters 45 and older, whereas the NDP tends to resonate more with the younger electorate, those under 45, who may or may not like to watch cat videos on TikTok.
