During his farewell speech in the House of Commons, former Conservative Party leader of Canada (CPC), Erin O’Toole, defended the WEF and bashed “conspiracy theorists” concerned with losing sovereignty.
O’Toole is retiring from federal politics at the end of this month.
“Today, too often, we’re allowing conspiracy theories about the UN or the World Economic Forum go unchallenged,” he said.
“Or we attribute sinister motives to these organizations or people in a way that is simply not true or not fair, and if we do this more, we’re allowing others to define the debate for us.”
The former Royal Canadian Air Force member wore a Ukraine flag pin while effectively trashing the current CPC leader Pierre Poilievre, who said he would ban caucus members from attending the WEF during his leadership campaign.
O’Toole was the Conservative Party leader of Canada for 18 months, between 2020 and 2022, losing one election to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2021.
In 2022, the Freedom Convoy ousted O’Toole as party leader. O’Toole was barely supportive of the truckers and protesters who’d had enough of the mandates and vaccine passports.
Conservative MPs felt the need to defend the protesters, which they immediately did the moment interim leader Candice Bergen took over the party.
