People are outraged after a male-to-female transgender swimmer unfairly defeated women competitors in the NCAA Championships on Thursday.
Lia Thomas, who transitioned into a female in 2019, won first place, defeating second-place finisher Emma Weyant in the 500-yard freestyle. Thomas beat Weyant by over a second.
Critics took to social media to raise awareness over Thomas’s unfair advantages as a biological male competing against women.
Psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson was one of those critics.
“This is a narcissist, masquerading as an oppressed hero, depriving deserving women of the victories they have justly earned, cheered on by ideologically-possessed and resentful fools eager in turn to sacrifice deserving others to their false moral pretensions,” wrote Peterson on Twitter.
NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck said that the incident was a part of the “murder of women’s sports.”
“Women (and men) are committing a slow and purposeful murder of women’s sports,” tweeted Houck.
This is not the first success by Thomas over female competitors. Thomas has broken several records and won awards for outperforming women.
Thomas’ controversial participation in women’s sports has prompted even a teammate to speak out. An anonymous teammate told News Nation that Thomas’ participation was a “problem.”
“I think a lot of my teammates are really scared,” said the teammate. “The first time I can remember, I was kind of shocked that this was like here and like this was actually happening and like there was going to be no one to step in either way and kind of like assess the situation. We were kind of just made to accept it and not question ever say anything.”
As the Counter Signal has reported in the past, transgender athletes competing against women has become a growing problem.
In July, Canada sent a biological male to steamroll women at the Olympics. While another transgender weightlifter who was born a biological man was allowed to also compete against women.
