Poilievre roasts Trudeau for infamous teaching scandal

The Conservative Party of Canada leader roasted Prime Minister Trudeau over his infamous teaching scandal, where the former high school teacher left in the middle of the semester for unclear reasons.

Poilievre roasts Trudeau for infamous teaching scandal

While Poilievre and Trudeau debated in Parliament on Wednesday over the carbon tax, Poilievre called Trudeau a “high school drama teacher” and asked Trudeau to justify the taxes.

Trudeau proudly confirmed that he was a high school teacher before he entered politics, and said he couldn’t remember what Poilievre did before politics — a dig at the Conservative leader for being a lifelong politician.

Poilievre responded, “Yes and he left right in the middle of the semester and I’m having trouble remembering why.”

Poilievre’s caucus erupted, and Trudeau ignored the comment.

Unconfirmed rumours have long made the rounds when it comes to Trudeau’s departure from West Point Grey while he was a high school teacher.

When asked about the rumours in 2019, Trudeau said “I moved on. I have great memories of an excellent time teaching in Vancouver, uhhh, in public and private schools.”

The Post Millennial reported in 2019 that Trudeau’s autobiography reads “[West Point Grey] was not the best fit for me as a teacher, nor I for them.”

“CTV political journalist Don Martin said Trudeau told him as a backbench MP he would never run as PM because he had too many secrets,” the Post Millennial further reported.

Rumours aside, one thing that can be confirmed is Trudeau inappropriately groped reporter Rose Knight about 20 years ago.

Knight said in 2018 about Trudeau’s unwanted grope, “I issue this statement reluctantly, in response to mounting media pressure to confirm that I was the reporter who was the subject of the Open Eyes editorial, published in the Creston Valley Advance in August of 2000.”

She added “The incident referred to in the editorial did occur, as reported. Mr. Trudeau did apologize the next day. I did not pursue the incident at the time and will not be pursuing the incident further. I have had no subsequent contact with Mr. Trudeau, before or after he became Prime Minister.”

Trudeau infamously said Knight experienced the event differently than he did.
