Poilievre stands against puberty blockers for minors

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre firmly opposed the administration of hormone therapy or puberty blockers to minors, advocating for waiting until adulthood before making such irreversible decisions.

Poilievre stands against puberty blockers for minors

Poilievre’s stance was articulated during a heated exchange with reporters in Ottawa, where he criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for “dividing and distracting Canadians” on the issue.

“I think that Justin Trudeau is trying to divide and distract Canadians by spreading disinformation about the decisions that premiers and parents are making,” Poilievre stated.

He further asserted, “I believe that adults should have the freedom to make any decision they want about their bodies.”

When pressed about medical interventions for minors, Poilievre clarified, “I think we should protect children. Let them make adult decisions when they become adults,” unequivocally stating his opposition to puberty blockers for individuals under the age of 18.

Poilievre didn’t hold back in his critique of Trudeau, accusing him of using the issue as a divisive tactic. “Justin Trudeau is again puffing out his chest trying to divide Canadians and attack parents who are trying to protect their kids,” he remarked. He predicted Trudeau would ultimately “back down” on this, likening it to previous policy reversals on firearms and medical assistance in dying for mental illness sufferers.

The debate on minors’ access to puberty blockers and hormone therapy intensifies

This controversy arrives amid Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s recent policy announcements, which have sparked a nationwide conversation on minors’ access to so called gender-affirming care.

Poilievre’s comments align with a growing concern regarding the long-term, irreversible impacts that puberty blockers and hormone therapy have on “trans” minors.

Of course, not everyone accepts the concept of “trans kids,” especially given the fact that most minors who believe they are in the wrong body later realize they were simply confused.

Moreover, a recent study suggests that giving puberty blockers to “trans kids” may lower their IQ, along with several other negative effects — including making them sterile.

Another recent study revealed that transgender women (biological males) who receive hormone therapy face a 95% higher risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular conditions.
