The Poilievre Conservatives are expected to propose a non-confidence motion to remove Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday September 24.

If the motion gets a majority of votes, a snap election could be triggered.
The motion will reportedly read, “The House has no confidence in the prime minister and the government.”
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre said last week he would attempt to propose the motion as soon as possible now that parliament has resumed since the summer break.
The first ‘opposition day’ is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 24. On this day, the Conservatives can set the House of Commons agenda and introduce bills.
Earlier this month, the NDP ended their ‘Supply and Confidence’ agreement with the Liberals, which had shielded the government from confidence votes. This move now makes Poilievre’s pending motion a litmus test for the NDP.
“It’s put up or shut up time for the NDP,” Poilievre said.

If NDP MPs side with the Liberals despite not having to do so any longer, tearing up their agreement will appear to have just been for show. On the other hand, if enough NDP MPs vote “No,” Justin Trudeau will be forced to either resign or dissolve parliament and call an election.
