The Prime Minister’s Office knew about the racist and anti-semitic tweets from ‘anti-racist’ Laith Marouf for at least one month before they severed his contract.
According to The Globe, a staff member working under Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen informed the PMO about the disgusting tweets in “mid-July.”
Marouf was on public record on Twitter saying, “You know all those loud-mouthed bags of human feces; the Jewish White Supremecists; when we liberate Palestine and they go back to where they came from, they will return to being low voiced bitches of their Christian/Secular White Supremacist Masters.”
This was one of a few racist tweets from Marouf that was shared with the PMO in July.
But Marouf’s $133,000 contract, paid for by taxpayers through Canadian Heritage, wasn’t cancelled until about five weeks later on August 22.
“@JustinTrudeau and this Liberal government must never lecture anyone about racism ever again,” former Conservative leadership candidate Roman Baber wrote on Twitter in response to the revelation.
Why did it take a month for government to speak out? Did they hope it would all just go away? Where’s accountability?” tweeted Mark Goldberg, who was raising the issue for months before any action was taken.
On August 30, at least six weeks after his office became aware of the racist tweets, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took credit for acting fast on the matter.
“We cannot accept racism, hatred and anger, particularly not funded by the government, and that’s why we took action quickly.”
