The Quebec government just extended its mask mandate to April 30, despite most Canadians already being free from the restrictive policy.
The announcement was made at 11:00 am during a press conference, in which interim Health Minister Luc Boileau broke the bad news to Quebec residents, who, in addition to the mask mandate, have had to face curfews, a tax on the unvaccinated, and mandatory booster shots to be considered fully vaccinated.
The mask mandate was initially intended to be lifted on April 15.
“The pandemic is not over. It’s still here,” Boileau claimed, adding that there’s a scary sixth wave on the rise — does anyone remember the fifth? — caused by the BA.2 variant.
“… As the majority of measures were lifted, we wanted to have an approach that’s more cautious,” he continued.
Boileau also reminded residents that they would have to self-quarantine if they happened to test positive.
“You can be contagious for a period of 10 days,” Boileau said. “That’s not the time to go to a restaurant. It’s not time to go to a show, it’s not time to do sports or invite people over to your house.”
There are now only two provinces and one territory forcing Canadians to remain masked while in public: Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Nunavut.
