On Sunday, November 10th, the eve of Remembrance Day, Rebel News journalist David Menzies was arrested by Toronto Police, while covering a pro-Israel street rally.
Across the street, counter-protesters gathered that Menzies engaged with peacefully on camera. However, the protesters surrounded him, calling on Toronto police officers to arrest him, marking his fifth arrest this year alone.
Earlier in January 2023, Menzies was arrested for “assault” by a member of the RCMP security detail assigned to Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, whom Menzies had attempted to question.
Menzies had walked past Freeland to ask about Canada’s policy on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the anniversary of the Ukrainian International Airlines Flight 752 tragedy, which was shot down by the IRGC on January 8, 2020.
An RCMP officer obstructed Menzies’ path, grabbing him by the chest and back before aggressively arresting him, accusing the journalist of assaulting the officer. The incident was captured on video, sparking online outrage and prompting an RCMP investigation.
Rebel News subsequently sued the RCMP for engaging in a “pattern of intimidation and exclusion” against both Menzies and the news outlet. The lawsuit also targets the York Regional Police and Canada’s Attorney General.
Menzies tweeted: “My grandfather spent 5+ years fighting Nazis in WWII, and now IslamoNazis are calling the shots in Canada.”
