UPDATE: At least six people have died and 24 have been wounded following a mass shooting incident at a 4th of July parade in Highland Park.
Police say that the shooter is still at large and likely fired from atop a building overlooking the parade.
“Highland Park Police Commander Chris O’Neill, the incident commander on scene, urged people to shelter in place as authorities search for the suspect, described as a white male wearing a white or blue T-shirt,” reports the Associated Press.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker says that state police are still on the scene, and the area is being cleared.
“My staff and I are closely monitoring the situation in Highland Park. State police are on the scene, and we have made all state resources available to the community. We will continue working with local officials to help those affected,” tweeted Pritzker.
