Calgary police announced they’ve charged Dr. Shabeena Jabeen Fazhulla for fraud after discovering she allegedly billed Alberta Health Services for $2.2 million for overtime hours that she never worked.
In a Wednesday press release, Calgary police stated: “It is alleged the doctor was billing the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan for additional time beyond the actual hours worked.”
“It is alleged the doctor was billing the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan for additional time beyond the actual hours worked,” the statement added. “Our Economic Crimes Unit became involved in the investigation, and as a result, Shabeena FAZHULLA, 49, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 in relation to the fraudulent billing submissions.”
Fazhulla worked out of the SF Medical Clinic at 1106 Edmonton Trail N.E. She’s also a lecturer at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine.
She’s scheduled to appear in court on May 16.
Fazhulla is innocent until proven guilty.
