Liberal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault has declared himself a “proud socialist” in the House of Commons on Tuesday.
Guilbeault made the comments while defending the Liberal’s carbon tax.
“I’m a Liberal and a proud socialist, Mr. Speaker,” he told the House Speaker.
Guilbeault said the quiet part out loud while attacking the Conservative Party for having what he said was “no plan to fight climate change.”
The Conservatives and Liberals have been sparring over the Liberal’s carbon tax for months.
On Monday, Guilbeault’s Liberal Party voted against the Conservative Party’s motion to pause the Trudeau carbon tax for three years on all forms of home heating.
Poilievre’s motion lost by a vote of 186 — 135 after the Bloq Québécois separatists voted against the motion alongside the Trudeau Liberals.
In September, Guilbeault spoke outside the Conservative convention where he was grilled by independent reporters for his hypocritical treatment towards Canada while cozying up to China, a country that emits 98% more emissions than his own.
Climate Cultist
In 2001, Minister Guilbeault was charged for scaling the CN Tower, where on behalf of Greenpeace, he put up a poster that read “Canada and Bush Climate Killers.”
The next year, Guilbeault trespassed onto then-Premier of Alberta Ralph Klein’s property and installed solar panels on his roof.
