The Edmonton Police Service is investigating Liberal MP Randy Boissonnault’s former business, Global Health Imports (GHI), and business partner, Stephen Anderson, over allegations of fraud.
The investigation stems from a fraud allegation made by Michael Weber, legal counsel for 4M Medical LLC, a medical supply procurement company based in Overland Park, Kansas.
Weber provided police with the same information that was recently filed in court as part of an affidavit supporting a separate lawsuit by The Ghaoui Group against GHI.
As reported by Global News, “Weber alleges GHI and Anderson fraudulently induced him to send a $350,000 deposit for a large shipment of medical gloves that GHI never delivered. The refundable deposit 4M Medical sent in October 2022 was not returned, Weber states in court documents.”
GHI is in fact facing a number of lawsuits related to allegations of fraud.
Boissannault owned 50% of GHI until June 2024, and has been accused of being involved in the company’s business dealings after getting appointed to a cabinet role in 2021, which is forbidden under ethics rules.
In January 2024, GHI was awarded a federal contract by Elections Canada valued at $28,300.
Boissonnault himself is not under investigation, and denies any wrongdoing. However, pressure for him to resign is mounting amid a number of scandals.
Last week, the National Post reported that GHI failed to secure two federal contracts in 2020 while claiming to be “Indigenous” and “Aboriginal owned.”
Boissannault had previously claimed he had Indigenous ties, and only later clarified that his adopted family were “status Métis.” This claim has also proven to be false.
“I wasn’t as clear as I could have been about who I am and my family’s history,” he said.
Moreover, Boissannault’s former business partner, Stephen Anderson, previously lied to Global News, claiming that there was another individual named Randy who managed logistics at GHI.
Uncovered September 2022 text messages from Anderson’s phone reveal him referring to speaking with “Randy” about business dealings. While speaking to an ethics committee in July, Anderson changed his story, and said that when he texted “Randy” numerous times, he wasn’t referring to Randy Boissonnault—or any Randy—claiming that every usage of the word was an autocorrect.
Making matters borderline comical, last week it was discovered that GHI previously shared a post office box with a woman who has been implicated in two major drug busts.
