A recent survey reveals a startling lack of recognition among Canadian political leaders and potential Liberal leadership candidates.
The survey by Abacus data asked 1,989 Canadian adults from July 4 to 9 about the recognizability of federal politicians.
The majority of Canadians (61%) do not recognize the Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Chrystia Freeland.
Even more striking, four out of five Canadians do not recognize Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.
Other potential Liberal candidates are even less known, with 93% failing to identify Mark Carney, 96% not recognizing Housing Minister Sean Fraser, and 96% unfamiliar with Public Safety Minister Dominic Leblanc.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remains the most recognized political figure in Canada, identified by 98% of Canadians. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is recognized by 84%, while Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is recognized by 66%.
Elizabeth May of the Green Party is identified by about half of Canadians, while BQ Leader Yves-François Blanchet is recognized by only 20% nationwide, with 49% recognition in Quebec.
