An uncovered recording reveals Liberal senator Yuen Pau Woo pledging to shield individuals who are supported by Communist China’s “United Front” from scrutiny and suspicion.
The discovery comes from a report by The Bureau, which reveals a recording of Liberal senator Yuen Pau Woo speaking with the Canada Committee 100 Society.
The forty-seven minute private meeting, which was said to have been recorded in May of 2020, is only partially revealed in the report through two small clips, both of which feature Senator Woo speaking.
”I’m very worried that the mainstream in Canada, including a lot of my friends, political leaders, and business leaders and media leaders, are falling into a very dangerous trend, what I call a litmus test,” said Woo on the audio tape.
In another audio clip, Woo said, “For example, your views in Hong Kong, your views on Tibet, your views on Uyghurs, your views on South China Sea, whether you belong to an organization that is officially part of the United Front. You know, many organizations are listed as part of a United Front list of organizations.”
Woo added, “whether you belong to an organization that happens to be listed as a United Front organization should not be a litmus test.”
Woo further said he’s “fighting very hard” against such criticism.
The United Front is a political strategy by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that involves networks of groups and key individuals that promote the CCP’s interests.
CSIS has accused the United Front leaders community in Canada of being CCP proxies that support chosen candidates.
Canada Committee 100 Society has reported ties to China’s United Front
The Canada Committee 100 Society that Woo had privately met with describes itself as a not-for-profit, non-government-organization that is “dedicated to advocating Canada’s diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
The Bureau’s report also states that analysts who are experienced in Chinese interference say that the Senator is “legitimizing the United Front’s expanding networks of influence, which facilitated Beijing’s federal election interference in 2019, according to leaked CSIS records that triggered the Commission.”
Woo granted position on inquiry despite submission after deadline
The audio clips are discovered after Trudeau’s appointed foreign interference public inquiry commissioner, Marie-Josée Hogue, granted Woo’s late application to make arguments. The Commissioner’s integrity has also been called into question as she has had ties in the past to the Trudeau family and Liberal party.
