Details of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Christmas and New Year’s vacation have emerged showing that he did not in fact pay for his trip like he originally stated, and instead was gifted free accommodations at a fancy villa that normally costs $9,300 per night.
Trudeau previously stated he was paying for his vacation out of pocket.
But a National Post report indicates that the Prime Minister didn’t pay for his family’s 10-day vacation where he and his three kids hung out at the Frankfort villa, along with his separated wife Sophie Trudeau.
After The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that Trudeau would cover the cost of his trip, his office “clarified” on Wednesday that Trudeau wasn’t paying for his vacation, though they did not mention who exactly was covering the cost.
Trudeau vacation details
The Frankfurt villa is owned by a long time friend of the Trudeau family, Peter Green.
The Trudeau family’s nine night stay would normally cost around $84,000 CAD.
The Prime Minister is expected to return back to Canada on Thursday.
Just before departing for his trip, Trudeau told a podcaster that the next election won’t happen for two more years. The next scheduled election is set for October 2025.
