According to a recent news release from Global Affairs Canada, the Trudeau Government has sent $4.7 billion tax dollars to Syria since 2016 while taking in more than 100,000 refugees from the country.

Trudeau gave $4.8 billion tax dollars to Syria and welcomed over 100,000 refugees since 2016

The most recent top up came earlier this week, when Canada donated Syria $17.25 million for food, hygiene services, and response plans to gender-based violence initiatives.

These taxpayer donations continue despite millions in Canada struggling to afford to eat and pay rent due to the high cost of living created under the Liberal Government. Food Banks Canada reported more than 2 million visits in 2024, a 6% increase from 2023.

The development also comes after Trudeau appointed a ‘special envoy’ to Syria, which is now controlled by Al-Qaeda boss, Ahmad Al-Sharaa, better known as Abu-Mohamed Al-Joulani.

Trudeau’s envoy is Saudi-born Syrian, Liberal MP Omar Alghabra, who announced in 2023 that he would not seek reelection. Alghabra’s new job is to focus on Syria’s political affairs under the new Islamist regime.

Sharaa and his group, Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS), remain designated terrorists according to Canada’s terrorist list.

In spite of the designation, Trudeau became the first western head of state to formally speak directly to the new leader, and to congratulate his Islamist militia on their takeover of Damascus.
