Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s 35-room mansion on 24 Sussex Drive is infested with rats, carcasses, and feces.
Last year, the National Post reported that some of Trudeau’s servants were forced to relocate while his house underwent “remediation work.”
On Monday, the National Post received back an Access to Information request that showed the reason for the work was a rodent infestation.
“There is an important rodent infestation, which can’t be fully addressed until the building envelope issues are resolved,” a note read from staff at the house.
“In the meantime, we use bait to control the situation, but that leaves us with excrement and carcasses between the walls and in the attic and basement spaces.”
Staff further said they had “real concerns with air quality.”
Trudeau no longer lives in the home, opting instead to live at his Rideau cottage.
Nonetheless, events still take place at the rat carcass infested Trudeau residence, which caused staff to raise the concerns last June.
“If a meteorological event would have occurred, human nature could have led to hundreds of guests rushing into this uninhabitable building, which is a risk we can’t accept.”
These safety concerns were heeded in November, as the six staff members who were still living in the residence re-located to an undisclosed location. They had been staying at the rodent infested residence without the Trudeau family, preparing meals then transferring them to Rideau cottage.
It’s unclear how this dead carcass infestation might impact Trudeau’s approval rating. Last month, a poll showed that 20% of Canadians didn’t believe the scandal plagued PM was legitimately elected as questions about Chinese electoral interference mount.
This poll came just after the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation gave back a Chinese Communist Party-backed donation it received seven years earlier.
