Tucker Carlson’s viral Twitter video had more views over twenty-four hours than what all of cable news networks had combined.
Twitter user @TheChiefNerd shared the findings on Friday, to which Twitter CEO Elon Musk said “wow.”
Carlon’s viral video from Wednesday received 72 million views in the first twenty-four hours after he broke his silence. Fox News parted ways with the former number one news anchor in America on Monday, just hours before his scheduled show.
Meanwhile, all cable networks received a combined total of 53 million views in the same 24 hours — about 19 million less viewers.
The contrast reflects the massive shift many have spotted happening in the media landscape. While independent journalists and content creators are able to spread their message with greater ease than ever before, mainstream media is facing stiffer competition — and more pushback.
Earlier this year, when Musk appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight, Musk told Carlson that mainstream media had “full access” to Twitter before he took over the platform.
In his first video since the Fox News departure, Carlson said mainstream media doesn’t report on important issues such as war, emerging science, natural resources, and emerging world powers.
“Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it,” he said.
“Suddenly the United States looks like a one party state.”
Carlson finished his two minute ice-breaker by asking “where can you still find Americans that are saying true things?”
“See you soon,” he teased. On Thursday, a new Twitter Files installment dropped that implied the World Health Organization colluded with Twitter to get Tucker Carlson censored.
