After a slew of random stabbings in Alberta, a UCP Minister called out New Democrat Party (NDP) candidates and current MPs for their recent “Defund the police” stances.

On Wednesday, Alberta Minister Rebecca Shul asked Notley to have certain NDP team members “explain their comments and why they’re so out of touch with Alberta families.”
Shulz called out Calgary City Councillor Druh Farrell for calling police “domestic abusers” shortly after the frenzied “Defund the Police” movement that followed George Floyd’s murder. Farrell is running for the NDP in the Calgary-Bow riding, and issued an apology the day after trashing the police.
Shulz also mentioned a number of other candidates, including Rod Loyola who’s running in Edmonton Ellerslie. Loyola once said “Alberta police officers commit crimes with immunity,” and “An EPS badge gives you a right to beat up citizens and not have to face criminal charges.”
The UCP Minister also mentioned NDP MP Janice Irwin who once tweeted “Defund the Police.”
This follows Tuesday’s viral video of Mayor Gondek ducking a question from The Counter Signal’s Keean Bexte regarding her ‘Defund the Police’ budget-slash from 2020. Gondek had literally no response to her recent flip-flop on police funding.
Earlier this week, yet another random stabbing spree saw four Albertans sent to the hospital. All four victims are expected to survive.
Just prior, Mayor Gondek issued a plea for more resources after a separate stabbing, despite voting alongside Druh to defund the 2021 police budget by $20 million.
Last Wednesday, Gondek blamed COVID for the increase in random stabbings.
“We cannot wait for the next tragedy to occur before something more is done,” Gondek said.
A recent poll by Leger shows that most Albertans believe crime and violence has gotten worse since before the COVID pandemic started.
