It is becoming increasingly difficult to find family events that don’t feature a drag queen.
The University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario has announced a Mr. Rogers-themed event targeting children and families that will include a drag queen storytime.
The event, which takes place on April 16th 2023, is explicitly marketed to children while emphasizing the importance of “queerness” and “representation.”
UWindsor alum Kate Reynolds is the host of the event, “a local musician, writer, and children’s librarian who is open about her autism diagnosis, disabilities, and queerness.” According to the event page, Reynolds “will champion the importance of representation while introducing children to classical music.”
“As part of its commitment to diversity,” the webpage continues, “the audience will also get a special visit from ‘Amanda Villa the Drag Queen,’ who will join in reading ‘The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish.’”
The event will also include songs from children’s performers Fred Penner and Sharon, Lois and Bram.
This isn’t the first time the drag queen in question, “Amanda Villa,” has performed around children.
A Sarnia, Ontario bookstore featured the performer dressed as Disney character Elsa in November 2022 for a drag queen storytime.
According to the CBC, “Amanda Villa” has done drag for approximately 30 years, and is a retired elementary school teacher.
The University of Windsor drag queen event is being held in partnership with Autism Ontario.
Last month, the CBC broadcasted a feature with drag performers making children uncomfortable while indoctrinating them with gender ideology.
