US Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy slammed the Trudeau Liberals on Monday over their “authoritarian” treatment of Canadian truckers during the Freedom Convoy.
In a video released on social media, Ramaswamy slammed the Trudeau government over its “authoritarian” treatment of the freedom protesters, noting that truckers are “the backbone” of the US.
“Remember that Canadian convoy of truckers who bravely stood up against those vaccine mandates? Well the Canadian government revealed how authoritarian they really are, silencing those truckers with censorship, even seizing or freezing their personal bank accounts,” he said.
“That was wrong. And I respect those who through their civil disobedience revealed civil overreach on the part of government, administrative overreach,” Ramaswamy added.
He further thanked the Canadian truckers, while also emphasizing that America’s entire supply chain is the trucking industry.
Truckers are the “guardians of freedom on our highways”
Ramaswamy, who has been making headlines for what many claim are dominating the Trump-less Republican primary debates, also noted in a social media post that truckers are “guardians of our way of life & guardians of freedom on our highways.”
“Last year, the Canadian Freedom Convoy taught the world a valuable lesson about the power of civil protest against an out-of-control totalitarian government,” he said, lumping the Trudeau government in with the world’s dictatorial regimes.
Ramaswamy to release plan in support of American truckers
The presidential hopeful also said in his video that he intends to roll back regulatory overreach in the United States in order to cut red tape on the industry.
Ramaswamy said he intends to propose his plans to support truckers and their industry at the World’s Largest Truckstop in Walcott Iowa.
Ramaswamy slams “climate cultists”
In August, Ramaswamy stated on a political news talk show that “climate cultists” oppose fossil fuels with “religious conviction,” despite the substantial decline in climate-related fatalities over the last century attributed to their utilization.
“Are global surface temperatures going up? Yes,” he told her.
“Is that likely due to manmade causes? Yes,” he continued.
“Is that an existential threat to humanity? There is no evidence to support that.”
Ramaswamy continued, “To the contrary, eight times as many people die of cold temperatures rather than warm ones.”
