Woke Twitter employees are coming out to voice their disdain and literally cry after Space X CEO Elon Musk purchased of 9.2 per cent of Twitter shares.
“A prominent transphobe buying a large stake in Twitter is not at all funny,” a transgender Twitter data scientist tweeted. “I’m honestly kinda terrified [right now].”
Ashna Guliana, a software engineer at the company, took things further by posting a video to TikTok in which she cried about Musk’s purchase. She later tweeted, “me trying to enjoy the stock price without thinking about why.”
Musk’s purchase of Twitter stocks came soon after a series of tweets in which Musk contemplated what to do about the growing threat to freedom of expression. In March, Musk tweeted about how Twitter failed to adhere to “free speech principles.”
“Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?” Musk tweeted on March 26.
“Is a new platform needed?”
He has yet to comment on his purchase, simply tweeting “Oh hi lol” to his 80.3 million Twitter followers, which was liked nearly half a million times at the time of writing.
Following his purchase, Twitter stock skyrocketed by 26 per cent — a boon to any employee currently holding shares. But despite making them a wad of cash without any effort on their part, such employees aren’t happy.
“Elon Musk just (temporarily at least) made me a lot of money. And I still dislike him,” tweets a Twitter director.
