A review of the top 10 North American airline companies puts Air Canada dead last when it comes to flights that arrived on time.
Aviation analytics firm Cirium made the announcement in its 2023 On-Time Performance Review, released Tuesday.
In all, the 10 largest North American airline companies were grouped together. Just 63% of Air Canada’s flights were on time in 2023, the lowest percentage among them all.
This means over 139,000 Air Canada flights in 2023 failed to arrive on time as originally scheduled. Cirium reviewed over 376,451 Air Canada flights in making the calculation.
WestJet finished 7th place with a 69% score.
The best score among the North American airlines was Delta Air Lines, which scored 85%. Alaska Airlines came second at 82%.
Toronto’s airport ranked the worst for delays
Toronto Pearson International Airport was ranked as the worst airport for delays on the planet in July 2022.
A CNN Travel report based on data compiled from the flight tracking site FlightAware, showed that 52.5% of all of Toronto Pearson’s scheduled flights were delayed between May 26 and July 19 2022.
This is also the same airport that former NHL player Ryan Whitney infamously described as a “hellhole” in a viral video after being made to wait days to board a flight out of Canada.
