A teacher in an Edmonton school told a Muslim student he’s not welcome in Canada unless he respects everything that Pride stands for.

Her comments, caught on a hot mic, follow an uptick in school absences across Canada, with some parents opting to keep their children home and away from the politicized Pride movement.

“You are out to lunch if you think it is unacceptable to not show up because you think there are some Pride activities going on at the school,” the Londonderry School teacher said to the student.

The teacher further suggested that her not being racist was contingent on the student respecting Pride.

“It goes two ways. If you want to be respected for who you are, if you don’t want to suffer prejudice for your religion, your colour of skin … then you better give it back for people who are different than you. That’s how it works. It’s an exchange.”

She added, “We believe in freedom, we believe people can marry whoever they want. That is in the law … if you don’t think that should be the law, you can’t be Canadian, you don’t belong here. I mean it.”

A disproportionate amount of the school absences have come from Muslim students, but they don’t make up the only students skipping out on Pride activities.

Last month, a York district school board in Ontario voted against raising the Pride flag during Pride Month.

“The flag does not align with our faith,” said board member Frank Alexander. “We stand for our faith, we stand for Christ.”

Pride Pushback

The progress Pride flag is getting pushback not just from parents and school boards,  but even some gays and lesbians want nothing to do with the “LGBT community.”

A group run by gays, lesbians, and bisexuals on Twitter called LGB (@theLGBgroup) — which has over 15,000 followers — has been asking for a divorce from the “T,” which stands for “transgender.”

“We don’t even want Pride Month anymore, we just want to be separated from the TQ+ [transgender and queer] cult,” the group tweeted on Thursday.

Another group called Gays against Groomers, which has  over 250,000 Twitter followers, also said that “there is NO PRIDE in the sexualization, indoctrination, and mutilation of children.” 

They added, “The rainbow has been hijacked by activists who are using it as a shield to push a dangerous agenda onto your kids.”
