The Liberal government has acknowledged a significant gap in data regarding actual suicide mortality rates among trans and gender-diverse individuals in Canada.
A response to a parliamentary question reveals that they simply don’t have any data to prove it’s true or false.
The questions on sex at birth and gender identity were only introduced “in the last few years,” their response states.
The only data collected in relation to suicide and trans–identified individuals pertains to suicidal ideation and attempts — not actual suicide.
Citing data from a Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS), the Minister of Innovation, François-Philippe Champagne, stated that 55.1% of nonbinary individuals and 59.7% of transgender individuals reported having contemplated suicide at some point in their lives, compared to 12.0% of individuals who do not identify with a gender that’s different from their sex.
Further, the data suggested 20.4% of those who are transgender or nonbinary reported having seriously attempted suicide in their lifetime, compared to 3.0% among people who don’t have gender dysphoria.
However, these figures are based on self-reported data, which is inherently subjective and compounded by the fact that the sample size for this demographic is relatively small, the latter of which even Champagne acknowledged.
The cultural divide over ‘gender-affirming care’
Left-wing politicians and advocates often cite the rates of suicide and suicide ideation among trans-identified youth when justifying their support for “gender affirming care,” also known as advocating for giving puberty blockers and hormone therapy to 12-year-olds, the majority of whom tend to suffer from mental health issues.
Moreover, politicians who ban such lunacy, like Premier Danielle Smith, are labelled “anti-trans.”
For example, the far-left Alberta NDP supports the claim that transgender 5-year-olds exist, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called Smith “far right” over her recently announced trans-related policies.
Conversely, many Conservatives believe the very same vulnerability of trans-identified individuals is proof that irreversible medical care shouldn’t be given.
In other words, both sides are using the same data—that these kids are often mentally unwell and vulnerable—to argue the opposite points.
“We’re talking about sterility”
Smith has remained steadfast in her conviction, saying “We are talking about sterility — let’s be frank about it.”
To this point, giving puberty blockers to children has been linked to possibly making them sterile and lowering their IQs.
Additionally, a massive study published last month that spans 15 years and 2,772 children revealed that most “trans kids” eventually outgrow their gender dysphoria.
