Only weeks after dropping the mask mandate, the Ontario NDP and Liberal party leaders are calling for their immediate return.

“Doug Ford dropped masks too soon. Now we’re paying the price,” tweeted Andrea Horwath.
“Ford can protect folks and keep hospitals from being overrun by updating masking, returning broad PCR testing and giving workers ten paid sick days. If he won’t, he and Dr. Moore need to step up to explain why.”
Liberal leader Steven Del Duca quickly following suit, penning a letter demanding that mask mandates stay indefinitely until the “sixth wave” is over.

“Mask mandates need to remain until this 6th wave wanes and be expanded to include essential indoor settings such as schools, pharmacies, and grocery stores,” he writes.
After two years of draconian restrictions — some of which still unjustly exist for unvaccinated Canadians — the opposition parties’ strategy for the upcoming provincial election includes the continued quashing of civil liberties to defend against a “sixth wave.”
Of course, others aren’t so concerned about what appears to be a mild seasonal illness. While COVID cases have risen, both hospitalization for COVID and the death rate have essentially flatlined.
Seasonality.

Not "waves", "surges", "wavelets".
Natural seasonality of an endemic seasonal respiratory virus is not caused by normal human behaviour.
Say it with me: seasonality.
1/ Instead of recognizing that covid now follows predictable patterns of seasonal variations, we continue to refer to this seasonality as new “waves” of the illness. These are not waves; it's becoming endemic.

Moreover, despite his recommendation, less than two weeks ago, Del Duca and his fellow Liberals were caught without masks indoors while attending a crowded campaign rally.
Following this debacle, some of them apologized.
“Well, I screwed up,” tweeted Kate Graham, Liberal candidate for Ontario’s London North Centre.
“I’m masking at indoor gatherings most of the time, other than when eating, speaking or for photos. I wish I wore my mask more consistently yesterday. Learning from this,” Graham wrote.
No matter how hypocritical and absurd this is, mainstream media continues to push the same fearmongering propaganda over what has essentially evolved into a mild cold or flu.
It’s become blatantly obvious that politicians’ tweets alerting the public to their COVID-positive status are scripted.#cdnpoli https://t.co/4RZ8OF6tUP

On Tuesday, media members asked Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliot six times about mask mandates, practically begging for them to return before she finally responded:
“I think that we all need to just stay calm.”
