Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre went scorched earth on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his coalition buddy, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, calling them woke, “ideological lunatics,” and about everything else during a scathing interview with the Calgary Sun’s Rick Bell.
With the next federal election just over one year away, Poilievre said that he’s the only sane option among the federal candidates.
“I’m the normal guy. Trudeau and the NDP are the wackos. They are the extremists,” he said.
Poilievre called himself “the normal centrist mainstream leader.”
Just for good measure, he added: “The other guys are absolute raving wackos. They are ideological lunatics.” He cited the rising housing costs, drugs and crime, homelessness, and carbon tax as examples.
Poilievre described the NDP-Liberal ideology as one that has “total disdain for the common people” and focuses on centralizing power and money with a so-called expert class. He argued that this elite class claims superiority and virtue over ordinary citizens while presenting themselves as defenders of the working class.
“What I’ve found about this radical new woke agenda is they always present themselves as the opposite of what they are, precisely the opposite of what they are,” said Poilievre.
“Everything they say is not only untrue but it’s the exact opposite of the truth,” he said.
The Opposition Conservative party sits about 20 points ahead of the Trudeau Liberals in public opinion polls, and even further ahead of the NDP, meaning if an election were to take place today, they’re projected to win a majority government.
However, the governing Liberals have an agreement with the NDP that effectively makes the Liberals’ minority government a majority, and enables them to pass / avoid passing whatever legislative bills they want, all while getting protection from non-confidence votes.
