Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre mocked the Trudeau government’s latest environmental initiative, which oddly zeroes in on pizza ovens.
Poilievre’s remarks come days after the Trudeau Government, led by the Climate Change Minister Steven Guilbeault, announced that they’ve undertaken steps to ensure businesses that use wood-fired ovens adhere to emission reporting thresholds.
In the backdrop was a pizza oven, which Poilievre pointed to while calling the issue a “terrible, existential crisis to the entire universe which of course is pizza ovens.”
“I know that Prime Minister Trudeau and his federal agency have launched an outright crusade against pizza ovens.”
“And he will not stop until this crisis is resolved,” Poilievre added.
This Liberals’ move is part of a broader strategy to enforce stricter environmental regulations, a typical modus operandi of the Trudeau regime.
As per the latest guidelines, businesses operating wood-fired ovens might soon find themselves tangled in red tape, needing to report their carbon emissions, waste disposals, and recycling efforts.
According to a spokesperson from Guilbeault’s office: “Addressing air pollution is a shared responsibility between federal, provincial and territorial governments. Some provinces and municipalities in Canada also have standards in place that set limits on air pollutant emissions from new residential wood-burning appliances.”
Guilbeault wants a plastic registry to keep “plastic companies accountable for their waste”
Guilbeault’s plans to regulate everything has reached new levels in 2024. Last week, he doubled down on his goal of creating a national plastics registry that would require plastics producers to track their items.
