Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Wednesday that seven MPs have been booted from his cabinet — while four others have announced they’re quitting.
In fact, most caucus members from Trudeau’s front bench have been moved, in one way or another.
In total, thirty changes have taken place, amid some of Trudeau’s worst polling numbers over his 8-year tenure as PM.
Of all the changes, there may be no greater admission of failure than the shuffles taking place within cabinet.
Shifts / Demotions
Notably, censorship czar Pablo Rodriquez is now the former Minister of Heritage, after he bungled Bill C-18 so much that Canadians aren’t able to access news on Facebook or Instagram. Trudeau made Rodriguez the Minister of Transport, in place of MP Omar Alghabra, who quit this week.
Another massive shift — or demotion — is now former Defence Minister Anita Anand (and new President of the Treasury Board). Anand is kicked out of her role as Defence Minister amid a lawsuit by more than 300 military personnel over her mandated COVID vaccine policy. She also leaves after woke-ifying the military and, perhaps relatedly, while suffering massive recruitment challenges.
Booted from cabinet
Marco Mendicino, Public Safety Minister and frequent liar, is out of cabinet. In just two years as Public Safety Minister, Mendicino was embroiled in several scandals, including lying about the Emergencies Act, and the Paul Bernardo prison transfer debacle. MP Dominic LeBlanc will take over the role, moving over from Intergovernmental Affairs.
Justice Minister David Lametti is also toast, as is Treasury Board President Mona Fortier.
Lametti is removed from cabinet, as cries across the country continue for tougher bail policies. Lametti tightened up bail conditions earlier this year with new legislation passed in May, but violent criminals are still being let out on the streets on bail and committing murder in what seems a monthly occurrence.
Quitting
Four cabinet ministers announced they’re quitting this week.
Transport Minister Omar Alghabra, Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett, Public Services and Procurement Minister Helena Jaczek, and Fisheries and Oceans Minister Joyce Murray are all leaving at the end of their current terms.
Notable ‘Stays’
Melanie Joly has impressed Trudeau enough to warrant staying in her role as Foreign Affairs Minister.
Finance Minister and WEF member Chrystia Freeland is also staying put.
And the CN Tower-scaler, Steven Guilbeault, will remain as Canada’s Environment and Climate Change Minister.
