After wrapping up his day on the campaign trail, Canada’s current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took a moment to release a 178-word statement about the Kabul attack.
The attack, which occurred 12 hours before Trudeau’s statement was released killed 13 U.S. Marines, injured more, and killed countless civilians.
Trudeau’s statement did not clarify if any Canadian civilians or assets died in the blast.
“All Afghan people deserve to live in dignity, peace, and security. Canada expects any future government of Afghanistan to fulfill its obligations to uphold the human rights of all its citizens, as required by international law.”
This, seemingly, leaves the door open for the Canadian government to recognize the legitimacy of a Taliban government.
Trudeau’s chief opponent, Erin O’Toole, released a video prior to Trudeau’s acknowledgement of the blast.
“The time we had to rescue our brave staff, supporters, and allies has run out,” the Conservative leader said. “We could be doing more. We should be doing more.”

“As a country, we were caught unprepared for the evacuation, but we can’t be for the aftermath.”
O’Toole is currently polling ahead of the Trudeau Liberals according to multiple polls.
