Documentarian and conservative activist Aaron Gunn has announced he’s running for the Conservative Party of Canada’s (CPC) nomination for BC’s North-Island – Powell River riding.
Gunn is a filmmaker, social commentator, and media personality who previously ran for the BC Liberal Party in 2021 but was kicked out of the race over “diversity concerns.”
If successful in his bid, Gunn would try to flip the North-Island – Powell River seat from orange to blue in the next federal election. In 2021, the NDP’s Rachel Blaney won the riding after capturing 23,833 votes compared to the CPC’s nominee, Shelley Downey, who received 21,675 votes.
As a CPC MP, Gunn would have the largest social media following in the caucus, just behind Pierre Poilievre himself.
“Over the past few years, I’ve watched as the quality of life for Canadians has deteriorated,” said Gunn in a press release. “Whether it’s the cost of living, a collapsing health care system, or public safety, everything seems to be getting worse.”
Gunn stands for free speech, less taxes, and has exposed the failure of “safe supply” opioid policies in BC that were meant to reduce overdose deaths. His ability to send clear common sense messaging through his viral documentaries helped evict Vancouver’s last mayor.
Gunn was denied his candidacy for the leadership of the BC Liberal party last year. Insiders close to the party tell The Counter Signal that they were worried his large following would pull the party in too conservative of a direction. The Liberal party is now trailing behind the underdog BC Conservative Party in all recently released polling.
Gunn is calling on conservative’s of all stripes to join him in an attempt to turn the swing riding of North-Island – Powell River blue, and to take it away from the Jagmeet Singh NDP.
Documentarian
Last month Gunn released The End of Free Speech, showcasing recent events in Canada where individuals were censored or mandated for politically incorrect views, including Dr. Jordan Peterson.
In May, Gunn released Canada is Dying, a documentary showing the current state of Canada’s homelessness, opioid crisis, and mental health crisis — and the failing policies meant to tackle the issues.
And his No Fishing Allowed documentary from 2021 covers the Trudeau government’s plan to destroy the fishing industry.
“I have spent the past several years producing documentaries that seek to uncover the truth and highlight the hardships facing many Canadians. While I am proud of my work investigating these issues, I don’t want to just report on them; I want to do something about them,” Gunn said.
